Feltmaking Courses Felt
is one of the earliest fabrics to be made, occurring throughout the
world, and used extensively for everything from hats to tents. Over the
past twenty years there has been a definite revival of interest in this
amazingly versatile fabric, both for its practical as well as aesthetic
qualities; it requires very little equipment, but lots of enthusiasm!
I have been developing feltmaking techniques for many years now, from a very structural approach through knitting, to much freer hand methods, and combinations of these, often incorporating embroidery or needlefelting for detail or added dimension. I have taught constructed textile design at Goldsmiths, Loughborough, and Liverpool John Moores Universities, and have developed this range of courses to cover basic feltmaking techniques, to produce a finished item during the day, and to encourage further experimentation. I will be running these regular courses at my workshop, for up to 4 people, but I can also run any of them for up to 10 people at other venues. If you are interested in me bringing any of them to your group, please contact me to discuss details. Courses in 2008 - 2009 are here |
